AC64E – Axel's C64 Emulator
A little Commodore 64 emulator for Windows, written from scratch in C++. Buggy, proud and 100 % handmade. ;-)

First public release of my little C64 emulator. Don't expect too much, it's only a "fun project". ;-)

AC64E simply means Axel's C64 Emulator. I've been working on it since 06/2003 – compared to other emulators out there it's still a really buggy alpha, and it will remain in this state forever. ;-)
I've been fascinated by the emulation scene since I first started a C64 emulator on my good old Amiga. I loved the C64 too – and crashed two of them back in my youth. I love the C64 and I love to code, so why not code a C64 emulator? I had nearly no idea of C++ when I started, so it was a hard task in all ways.
All parts of the emulation are 100 % my own work (OK, I got some help with the opcodes ADC and SBC). That's why it's so buggy, I guess. But hey, I'm proud of it. :-)
Most opcodes are fine. JMPI, ARRB, SBXB, SHAIY, SHSAY and LASAY still fail the testsuite.
Text, multicolor and bitmap mode, simple sprites with stretching.
Keyboard input and joystick 1 (cursor keys and space).
Runs on Windows, loads games in .PRG format, OpenGL output via freeglut. Next up: a better multicolor mode, D64 loading – and much later, SID emulation.

You download the software at your own risk. I'm not responsible for any problems, damages or other inconvenience caused by using my emulator. You may use the source code in any way you wish – just include a reference to AC64E as base code in any derivative. Thanks!
